“For you know that you were redeemed from your empty way of life inherited from your fathers, not with perishable things like silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of an unblemished and spotless lamb. He was foreknown before the foundation of the world but was revealed in these last times for you. Through him you believe in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.”-1 Peter 1:18-21, CSB
The weight of our trust and the hope of our soul should be in none other than the God of our Salvation. Sin could not stop Him, the grave could not hold Him and all glory is to His name. We have been redeemed not by what will deteriorate, we are redeemed by the eternal wages of Christ’s blood. No other price was suitable.
The thought, “Christ ransomed His bride“, is so profound when understood acceptably. We were ransomed. I was ransomed. I was not received into God’s care without cost. I was welcomed because Christ was deserted. I was set free because Jesus was bound. I was found because the Son of God was forsaken. Redeemed is not just a word spoken. Redeemed was a Life given. Let us never forget where our faith and hope should rest. Let us not dismiss our duty to think on the High Price of our redemption. And may we never assume we have contributed anything to such grace. Our hope and faith are only in God.
Prayer Prompts:
- Where are you tempted to place your faith in times of uncertainty?
- What does it mean to be redeemed? Define the word “Redeem”.
- Today, is the weight of your hope falling upon anything other than the Person of Christ?
- When was the last time you praised God for sending Christ to ransom you from your sin?
